Kosovo and the Islamic "Jihad"
Tonin Gjuraj,
Albanian Ambassador,
in Israel
It's with regret that we notice speculation with Kosovo in the international arena. In a recent writing of Caroline B. Glick, edited in the "Post" newspaper, entitled "Islam and the nation-state", makes wrong ideas about Kosovo. Besides other thing, she writes: "Today, USA and EU are commanding the foundation of a Palestinian State and an independent State of Kosovo". Thus it is made a parallelism of these two states. These two states have nothing in common, but there's speculation on the fact that they have in common the Islamic religion. Israel opposes an enforced solution, but the Israeli Government has given a strong support to the principles of the Contact Group, one of which emphasizes that for Kosovo there's no way back to the situation of before 1999.
Since 1999, Kosovo has well-confirmed its State Institutions, under the commission of the UN. Independent from Serbia. The occident knows now that Kosovo was appropriated by the former Yugoslavia since 1918, opposing the Kosovars resistance, transgressing their right to decide for themselves and the international laws in consequence. Even though 92% of Kosovo's people are Kosovars, Serbia removed their autonomy in 1989, in an unconstitutional way. After the death of Josip Broz Tito, in 1990, the situation worsened reaching its culmination in 1998 with the genocide, an example of crimes against humanity. It is this same genocide that explains the unique of the question of Kosovo. For more than a century the genocide and the massive expulsion of innocent people, turned Kosovo into a unique case. The repression under the regime of Milosevic was extremely materialized. Over 12.000 civilians were killed and over 1.500.000 were removed as a consequence of the ethnic cleansing from the Serb army during 1998-1999. Over 3.000 today are missing. That's why Serbia has lost all the moral and legal pretences over Kosovo. When a State shows such an open discrimination against an ethnic group, under its rule, the right of this group to decide for itself includes the right of separation. This is a right to separate from Serbia, a right for independence, as it is written in the Ahtisari's pack. The Albanians of Kosovo cannot be forced to return under Serbia. I'm using the term "the Albanians of Kosovo", for the term "the Muslims of Kosovo" used by Glick, hides a propaganda. If that's right, than it's right to say "the Orthodoxies of Serbia". There cannot be an Islamic purpose in the question of Kosovo. It is a basic mistake to equal ethnics with religion.
As far as declarations that "the Muslims of Kosovo are financially supported by Saudis and have links to global "jihad"" is concerned, it's simply a deception. "Jihadists" is a coded word used by Serbs and not by occidentals. Kosovo is powerfully supported by Washington, London, Paris, Rome…, while the Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, stated that "Kosovo and Kosovars have chosen Brussels".
It is not a coincidence that Kosovo was set free by NATO, a powerful and democratic structure of the nations mostly Christian. There's a social cohesion and a religious harmony in Kosovo. Today, Kolë Berisha, the Chairman of the Parliament there, is a Catholic. There is also a Democratic Christian Party which is involved in helping for the independence. The Albanians of Kosovo are more European than any other neighbor people of the Balkan region. Every poll was clear that most of the people there is in favor of a future membership of theirs in EU and NATO. Every discussion on the independent State of Kosovo should be focused on the democratic nature. Glick is wrong when she asks the Government of Olmert to "proclaim again and with a loud voice their disagreement for the independence of Kosovo from Serbia". Her logic of disapproving the formation of Muslim states, is no logic in the case of Kosovo, for it isn't and won't be a Muslim State. Efforts to evidence differences between the Albanians in Albania and those of Kosovo are erroneous. There's certainly sub-cultural difference, likewise in every other nation, but the Albanians of both sides share the same culture, ethnics, history, language, tradition, myths and legends.
The best answer, however, for all speculations about Albania and Albanians, was given by the report of Greer Fay Cashman in "Post", "The refuge from Nazis in Albania", where it is highlighted the fact that Albania saved every Hebrew in its land during the holocaust and most of the Albanians who gave shelter to Hebrews during the World War II were Muslims. In this context exist the marvelous relationships between Albanians and Hebrews. There is not therefore any evidence for provocative declarations based only on the religious inheritance.
Crime within the family
The cases of crime within the family are increasing day by day. Every case has a background, from the simplest ones, like jealousy, to the most "tragic" ones, like affairs. As these cases are not considered in the psychological field, but rather as an offense going against the family spirit in the Albanian society, there are thousands of cases, especially during these last 20 years, when women are killed for having an affair.
Here we have some of the cruelest crimes, never seen in the civilized world history and culture, while our politics is pretending everyday the integration, but the contrary is true.
Shazivar Hysenaj, 40 years old, from a gipsy district of Fier, entered the house of his son in law, Elez Mane and killed Altin Mane, the brother of his son in law, and Hatixhe Mane, his wife. He also wounded his son in law and the three kids, Elis Mane, 12 years old, Drita Mane, 2 years old and Genc Alushi, 15 years old; this because his son in law send his daughter back home. At the end he killed himself.
In the little village of Priske e Vogel, near Tirana, Pellumb Neli killed his wife, Nafie, in their bed, and her sister's husband, Armand Mehmeti. Their two kids became orphans and the author ended in prison; this because his wife cheated on him.
Hajredin Turtulli, from the quarter of Kombinat, after an ordinary fight, killed his wife, Myrvete Turtulli in the presence of their 5 children. While he is in prison, their 5 children, 1 to 15 years old remained abandoned.
In Kamza's turn, Besim Sopoti, killed his wife Englantina, after breaking their marriage, as well as his father in law, Hiqmet Beqiri and wounds his mother in law, Vasilika Beqiri, then he killed himself too. All this ended with three dead and one wounded.
The 50 years old Luljeta Rama, from Kashar, killed her husband, Muhamet Rama, to save her son, who was seriously menaced to death by his father, on April 15, as he thought his son stole him 30 thousand of Lek.
Fatmir Sulejmani, 41 years old from Patos, killed his wife, Xhulieta, 37 years old, stabbing her 17 times with a kitchen knife and wounded his oldest daughter, Desdemona, 20 years old, as he caught his wife in bed with Desdemona's "fiancé". After her attempt to defend her mother and her sister, was stabbed 8 times the second daughter, Imena, 16 years old, dying afterward in the hospital. The other two daughters became orphans.
The 31 years old Dhimitraq Zeqo, a gipsy man from Vlora, killed his two little daughters and wounded his wife, attempting then to commit suicide; this because drunk and jealous of his 27 years old wife. Two days later the two buried their killed daughters.
Muke Caka, from the village Osoje of Skrapar, killed his wife, as he supposed she cheated on him for 10 years with another countryman. They two had 8 children 8 to 21 years old.
Everyone kills for jealousy in Albania, except for those few cases when people leave Albania forever, trying to build up a life where the laws of Canon cannot find them.
One of these cases is that of Age Dukaj, a target of the wild laws of the Canon. On December 31, 1990, when her husband, Pal Dukaj, died, she became a widow. As a widow she found a man called Pjerin Kola. Her relationship was revealed in 1998. Instead of wearing black for the rest of her life, as it is custom to honor her husband till death, she had broken all these "codes", dishonoring her family. Her children couldn't kill their mother, but they couldn't either face "dishonor", so Lezina Murrizi, Vjollce Bujaj and Gazmend Dukaj do not live in Albania anymore. After her relationship was revealed, Age Dukaj asked for help to the Blood-feud Reconciliation Organization in Shkoder, as well as to the lawyer Bujar Hoti, but she couldn't get any legal protection.
In 1998, Mirash Dukaj, the brother of her dead husband, had threatened to kill her if the rumor he heard was true. She always denied, but in the summer of 2000, Tone Narkaj, the sister of her ex-husband, who honored her, warned her to be careful as the men of the family Fukaj had already decided to kill her and her lover, Pjerin Kola. October 15, 2002 was the darkest day, for Tone Narkaj told her that her five brothers sworn to kill her. So, the life of this innocent woman is seriously threatened as long as she lives. The lawyer B. Hoti told us that, fortunately Age Dukaj is living abroad.
These are the hard laws of the medieval Canon that kill women and cause families to scatter. It's a stressed and misbalanced society, in a country where the State keeps on deceiving creating conflicts, just to keep their undeserved power and people under slavery, becoming so problematic and ridiculous in the sight of the occidental countries.
