Serious danger for the former politically persecuted

The areas of North Albania, especially Shkodra, were and unfortunately are amongst the most persecuted and discriminated areas. After the persecution of 1945-1990, there was a good period of time of freely breathing. Nevertheless, persecution is back in these last eight years. This persecution keeps on hitting those families who held it for almost 45 years during the communist regime of Enver Hoxha. A progeny of one of those families is Edvin Lin Dema, born on September 30, 1976, in the heroic town of Shkodra in the “3 Heronj” quarter, considered a bastion of Albanian anticommunism.

The story started long ago and everything is registered in documents now. According to a testimony of the Institute of Integration for the Politically Persecuted of Shkodra, number 82 of protocol, of April 8, 2005, we come to know that Edvin’s grandparent, Ded Coku, father of his mother, Kristina, was fired by the communist regime on August 22, 1945, on the sentence of the Military High Court. This is also sustained by the decision no. 15, article A, serial no. 402, of September 9, 1994, of a three lateral commission that gave the status of the former politically persecuted.

Edvin’s mother, Kristina Dema, was interned in 1947 until 1968. According to the same abovementioned document, by the decision no. 18, of June 1, 1995, of the same commission, Kristina Dema got the status of the former politically persecuted, based on the article 3 of the law no. 7748, of July 29, 1993, point C, serial no. 114. This is also proven by the “Attestation of status”, given on July 20, 1995 by the Committee of the former Political Persecuted, the Direction of Law and Status.

Even Edvin’s father, Lin Dema, experienced a particular persecution by the communist regime. All of his life he worked in a farm, while persecution was on him for his political opinions as well as for his familiar links with ministers of the Albanian Catholic Church. As the Suffragan Mons. Zef Simoni declared on September 22, 2001, Lin Loro Dema was the nephew of Mons. Pjetër Dema, Primate of Durrës-Tiranë. Mons. Frano Illia, the Primate of Shkodra was a cousin of Lin (son of his aunt), while Injac Dema was another cousin of him (son of his uncle). At the same time we came to know that Lin worked for the Primate of Shkodra during the years 1993-2000, showing his devotion and a correct attitude. Kristina Dema, Edvin’s mother, was so fortunate to meet Mother Theresa and the Pope John Paul II. Edvin Dema grew up in a family like this, educated with the love for the religion and his fatherland. With Kristina, his mother, he was involved in the protest of April 2, 1991. Kristina was beaten with rubber sticks and his son, Edvin, was beaten on his body and head, for revenge. This too is proven by a document of August 1999, of the Anticommunist Political Association “13 Dhjetori”.

As soon as the democracy came, the family Dema was distinguished as a family in defense of democracy and its contribution was huge. This is stated by a document of the Institute for Integration of the Political Persecuted of Shkodra. Edvin was also distinguished in all the city of Shkodra as an enthusiastic democratic activist, becoming a well-known person on organizing protests for the right-winged forces. Edvin was also distinguished in defending the free vote during all the elections held in Albania. This same evidence was proven by the attestation of the Association “13 Dhjetori”.

With the return of communists on power, those who exercised and keep on exercising a real terror on their political rivals, the life of Edvin and his family was in serious danger in Albania. Dolores Valentin Leshnjani (Dema), his wife, experienced mistreatment on her body, by the actual political police. Unsafe life became a great problem, especially after the continuous surveillance by the security of the State. according to certification given by the Institute for Integration of the Political Persecuted of Shkodra, as well as by the Association “13 December”, this guy saw death nearer than life. Edvin and his wife were forced to leave Albania, for their lives were unsafe within the borders of their own country.

This is the living evidence that charges the actual Albanian politics, which is giving room to anarchy and violates basic human rights and freedom, especially to those who aspire for a State of law.

Why did the democrat Vladimir Gjinaj leave Albania?!

It is nearly unbelievable for the democratic world the fact that in a country stated at the heart of Europe, as it is Albania, individual freedom and rights are violated and infringed. Individual freedom and rights is the most sacred thing in a free democratic country, and it is sanctioned by law in all the societies, no matter their social or religious position, their richness or political opinions. This is not happening in our dear Albania, unfortunately after 1997…

To prove this it’s enough if you go by the offices of the Democratic Party whenever, and the list of their violated, menaced, mistreated, killed expropriated members is endless. Their only fault is that these democrats are anticommunists, antisocialists and they want a democratic government to draw them nearer to the Occidental Europe, and not to keep them off, as the socialist power keepers are doing. We decided to deal in our journal with the case of the young Vladimir Rrok Gjinaj, now missing to the democrats as they prepare for the parliamentary elections of this year. In a conversation we had with leaders of the branch of the Democratic Party of Malësi e Madhe, we came to know the whole Calvary of previous and actul persecution on the family Gjinaj, made by the communist State, now called socialists. Rrok Gjinaj was isolated and politically persecuted from 1947 until 1970, as a family against communism. In 1980, as the communist persecution continued, Rrok Gjinaj was imprisoned, and was held as a political prisoner until 1991, when political pluralism begun. In 1989 (August 15), the son of Rrok, Vladimir, who was only 14 years old makes the attempt to escape toward Europe, for his country had become a real hell for his family. This guy was unfortunately caught by the border customers who held and tortured him for almost one month and set then free as he was underage. The family Gjinaj welcomed with great joy the coming of political pluralism and foundation of the Democratic Party, and they joined it immediately. Vladimir Gjinaj joined all the peaceful protests against communism. The day of April 2, 1991, was a marked day for this young guy as he saw with his own eyes the fury of communists losing their power, while four martyrs of democracy were killed in Shkodra, while dozens of others were wounded. After the Democratic Party came on power, in 1992, this family was like born again. Since January 2, 1994, Vladimir became member of the Democratic Party, in the section of his village, Gruemirë. This young democrat felt like flying now in the space and his dreams for the democracy and freedom they had sacrificed for so long. Unfortunately it didn’t go so long. On May 26, 1996, Vladimir Gjinaj was at the head of the propagation and defense for the votes for the democratic candidate. The socialists noted this and “avenged” after they came on power in 1997. Even after all this violence and socialist terror, Vladimir however was steadfast in his democratic and anticommunist convictions, participating actively in all the activity of resistance of the democrats of his area. The “celebration” of the 13th anniversary of the foundation of the Democratic Party in Malësi e Madhe turned out to be the fatal day for the young democrat Vladimir Gjinaj. On February 15, 2004, when Vladimir was waiting for a vehicle to return home from the celebrations in Koplik, a white van came near and four masked people took him forcedly in, where they hit and insulted him. They remembered Vladimir of all his antisocialist activity, as well as the anticommunist activity of the family Gjinaj. They said they would revenge as they did with Arben Broci, Bujar Bishanaku and Nazmi Kryeziu, as well as Azem Hajdari and others. Yet, they told him they had chosen something else for him… After 40 minutes driving, they brought Vladimir to a building (residence of NIS of SP) in Shkodra, where they told him they were police officers of the State of the Socialist Party. After torturing him, they also told him that he was a Catholic and had given his contribution on building the church at Boriç, and as they were atheists they believed only in the immortal Enver Hoxha… Near midnight, they took him again in the van and threw him in the river Buna, thinking he would die for sure. God was with him, and fortunately saved him from those criminals. After he was able to leave, he went at home by night telling them everything that happened to him. Everyone at the section of the Democratic Party in Malësi e Madhe was sorry, but they couldn’t do anything to help him… The only way of salvation for this democrat now was to leave Albania at any cost, though he loved so much this county. He did this with a broken heart for his dreams of democracy that were broken…

After coming to know this entire story by the section of the Democratic Party and the family of Vladimir, we got a copy of his picture from the documents of membership of the Democratic Party in Malësi e Madhe, in order to publish it along with this article.

Victim of the organized crime with terrorist background

We are all witnesses about the discovery and arrest of the contrabandist group of explosives. An officer of the Police of Shkodra played an important part in this great plan preventing many possible terrorist acts in Albania, like that against the businessman Vajdin Lame. The name of the police officer was Eduard Rrusti, who discovered the Albanian-Serb group smuggling explosive stuff C4. An important role in this plan had obviously the American intelligence services, CIA.

Although there is no information about the police officer, the consequences are falling on his brother, Lin Bardh Rrusti, his wife Mimoza Rrusti and their three children of 23 and 20 years old, and their daughter of 12 years old. Since the discovery of this group that smuggled explosive stuff C4, this whole family is seriously menaced to be eliminated. Segments of the group, still in freedom, have made of this family their target of revenge. The message they bring is clear: Explosive stuff can be used to eliminate the relatives of those who discovered the group too. In these conditions, the entire family had to leave hiding. Threats to their lives are proven and always present.

Victime of the red terror, because of his contribution for the real democracy

As soon as the communists came back on power in Albania, in 1997, through the bloody revolution, many democrats have been hit on their dearest things.

The most prominent example was that of the fervent democrat Kujtim Rahova, born in Shkodra on August 20, 1969. During his whole life, Kujtim worked as a builder. He had studied at the building school in Shkodra. With the great desire to build up the real democracy, he became member of the first party in opposition in Albania. Kujtim says that he did this in 1993. He served as a bodyguard and driver for the leader of the DP in Shkodra, Mr. Ormir Rusi, and worked for the Democratic Party until 1997.

After the communist revolution of 1997, Kujtim became target of revenge, that touched his dearest thing, his children.

The October of 2003 was impressed in the mind of Kujtim. On October 21, 2003, was killed his son, Fatmir Rehova, born on September 13, 1996, in Shkodra. That same day, at 16:00, Kujtim went out with his son, to buy. As they were going back home, a car with four people inside stops them and shots on the car where was Kujtim and his son 7 years old. Kujtim tried to escape, while the little Fatmir had died. After that, Kujtim’s neighbours told they had seen the killers going around in the neighbourhood, near the house of Kujtim.

This murder came as a consequence of Kujtim’s engagement for the real democracy. Kujtim had many conflicts during the period of 1997-2003, with the party on power, the communists of the SP. During this period, certain segments have done many criminal acts against the people of the Democratic Party. This painful story had impressed the life of Kujtim Rahova, who suffers the pain of loosing real freedom and democracy, besides loosing his son at his early age. Since 1997, when communists came on power, their only language is revenge against all true democrats.
