The Albanians in their troubled journey

It is a time when the laws of the State don’t work yet, a time considered appropriate for crimes. The Albanians in this way feel unsafe and the journey of their life is troubled. It was the time when the gangs had broken in the weapons’ depots and dynamite exploded everywhere, as if it was Iraq. On June 13, 1997, some people, used to penalize the shop owners and businessmen, came and asked the money to Mr. Ndue Meshaj. The conditions were that either he would give the money or they would kidnap or even execute someone. That day, when those people entered the shop of Ndue Meshaj, he refused to give them his money, so they kill him in his shop. His son, Artur Ndue Meshaj, found out who did kill his father and gets even the necessary material for the Prosecution, but without any result, for the gangs had all the information on him and his movements. On March 20, 2004, they wait him a few meters from his house and kill him. Shkodra, the northern center, was blooded; the family members were terrorized and menaced to stop following the case of Ndue Meshaj. The family Meshaj had other victims too. The son of Ndue Meshaj, Ardian Meshaj, born on April 15, 1974, in Shkodra, was their target. According to reliable sources we have, there were attempts to kill even Ardian, to send him to his father. But, God helped him. Nevertheless, the fear of revenge made the killers of Ndue Meshaj to try to kill as much as possible. One year after the happening, in 1998, they killed the uncle of Ardian Meshaj, the late Kolë Meshaj and his daughter, Fatjona Meshaj. There were many attempts to kill Ardian Meshaj and his brothers Andi Meshaj and Artur Meshaj. The motive was the blood-feud. No matter this, the family Meshaj, those who are still alive, is in serious danger, while the State cannot establish the authority. They’re nearer to death than life, that life that only the one who gives it has the authority to take it, as it is God.

Fatbardh Hoxhiq, 38 years old, menaced by revenge

Even though the Albanians live in the 21st century, the medieval phenomenon of blood-feud and revenge still keep people living shut in, and causing hundreds of victims, mostly in the Northern Albania, especially in Shkodra. This is happening to the 38 years old, Fatbardh Hoxhiq and his family in Shkodra. But, how did this tragedy start? It started on October 18, 2004, when people with guns entered in the shop of the father of Fatbardh Hoxhiq, in order to get the money earned that day. Fatbardh Hoxhiq wasn’t there at the moment, as he had to take the provisions for the next day. His father, alone and terrorized, tried to defend the money and makes an attempt to take the gun from the hands of one of the robbers, so one of them during the fight, shoots killing his friend and wounding the father of Fatbardh Hoxhiq, leaving him paralyzed still today. The tragedy goes on, for the family of the victim wants to revenge on the family of Fatbardh. After four months they place explosive causing him severe wounds. He was hospitalized in the Regional Hospital of Shkodra for several months, in very bad security conditions, because since October 18, 2004, Fatbardh and his family are shut in their house, without any protection either by the police or the State, and without any financial source to live. They’re sad and terrorized every single moment of their life. They’ve asked the police many times to help them, but unfortunately they had no protection. The police closed the door leaving this family menaced by death. Fatbardh is the most menaced as the person whom they want for revenge. Through this we want to get the attention of people about the tragedy of the family Hoxhiq in Shkodra, who cannot live in these conditions in Shkodra and even in Albania.
