The Correspond. of “Shqipëria Etnike” Why is Sabri Godo concerned about the international presence in
This shows that Sabri Godo
is trying to hide the growing guilt that the The vehicle of the Albanian politics moving two steps forward and one
backward, doesn’t reach even to madness. The whole politics needs the
international observation, as it is very strange. There are a number of times
that Fatos Nano leaves politics willingly, making
self-sacrifice. This didn’t happen with other politicians during the 15-16
years of the so-called democracy. Let’s take the “characters” one by one,
only the most important ones. Let’s take Gramoz PAshko, for instance. In 1991, he walked from “victory to
victory” with the “blank cheque” in his hands. The
irritated mass burned up, destroyed and robbed the enterprises, factories and
plants. Yet he never sacrificed himself by leaving politics, likewise Nano or
Godo, who left the party de jure to Fatmir Mediu.
During 1993-1996, statements like: “The “Voice of America” and “Deutsche Welle” are communist radio broadcasters” were registered
before the bloody spring of 1997 caused by the rental foundations, leading to
the breaking through weapons warehouses. The today’s opposition accused
openly the “general” Arben Imami,
the “commissar” “Koha Jonë”,
Zogaj etc. They’re good today, though that
rebellion caused about 5000 innocent victims and thousands of others wounded
in The Albanian politics made real many anti-occidental acrobatics, and
not only ideological ones. The position of Godo is indeed a
good “dog” for sniffing situations. He knows that everything comes only from
the two strong: Berisha and Nano. That’s why Godo and his party were with Berisha,
when Berisha was on power, then with Nano, when
Nano was on power, now again with Berisha, and if
Nano returns on power, they will go back with him again. Perhaps Godo is playing his part to bring Nano back. He knows
that his influence paves the promising roads, so that the “Cleand Hands” might offer more incapacity and
administrative terror to the Albanian society. It’s a dangerous restoration,
limited with faithful or obeying people, with accusations for the occident,
does nothing more than recycling the need for Nano. Godo,
in his age, is gaining time the anti-occidental ones enjoy the European
sunrays. Our experience is a little bitter. Once we though “Ramiz
Alia is more liberal than Enver Hoxha”,
than “Sali Berisha is a
star in comparison to Ramiz Alia”, than we
considered Fatos Nano “more democratic than Sali Berisha”, then “Berisha is more honest than Nano”, and
than again “Nano might be better”. Godo was
always the main voice of this “song”. Godo knows
that Fatos Nano knows when he should leave and when
should come back again. If people said “Nano Go!” it looks like Godo is saying “Nano Come”. And you bet he comes. Sokol Pepushaj The Albanian Youth is Confused Political pluralism means that
one should be able to embrace and express his political views without the
fear of being persecuted by the political party that possesses more power.
What defines a democracy, among other things, is freedom of speech, freedom
of religion, freedom of the press, and the protection that the government
provides to minorities, be them racial, political or religious. Is our government acting
responsibly to ensure that the younger generation, who one day will have to
rule Albania, understands this part of a pluralistic and democratic society?
The simple answer is no. When our leaders, be them spiritual or political,
local or state level, do not tolerate each other’s differences and fail to
create room for political discussion and debate, and instead resort to the
use of force, our younger generation, the future of our nation, is confused,
and the confusion is created by our leaders. From 1990 to present, many
Albanians can tell a story where they were subjected to persecution because
of their politics, speeches or religion. And the persecution has always come
from the ruling party, be it the Democratic Party of the Socialist Party. We
have had extreme occasions where people were even killed because of lack of
tolerance. We know that Azem Hajdari, Gjon
Gjonaj, Behar Kastrati, to mention just a few, were all murdered for political
reasons and that high level government official were implicated in their
murders. They even got away with their murders. This trend of political and
religious intolerance has become more disturbing recently. This intolerance
is coming from within and without political and religious groups. For
example, the Democratic Party has begun to expel members from its ranks
because they may have expressed political dissent with its leadership.
Schools, such as the Koplik High School, Nikoll Zogorjani, etc., are refusing
to allow political speakers from other parties but the Democratic Party to
come and speak at their campuses. Palin Sterkaj, even though he was invited
by the Youth Forum to speak, not allowed to do so by school only because he
is a Socialist. The Politically
Persecuted were not allowed to hold a gathering in front of the Prime
Mister’s Offices because they are anti-Berisha. The Association “Lets Return
to Our Roots” was closed down as a source of “religious trouble” and Mimoza
Tartari was arrested for refusing to cooperate with NIS, the Cross in Shkodër
was knocked down, and a Muslim was killed by other Muslims because he
converted to Christianity. These are some of the incidents that prove that
Albania is growing more intolerant, both politically and religiously. Our
government, political parties, educational institutions and religious leaders
must take a stance: No matter where we come from, what we are, what political
persuasions we have, what religion we practice, we have to tolerate each
other. The government should provide
more protection for minorities, and teach our younger generation that having
a different political or a religious persuasion is acceptable by our society. We can not join the western
world by tolerating, even practicing, intolerance, bigotry and hatred. We can
not be part of the western civilization by beating, torturing, and even
killing the once that may be different from us. Continuation of these
dangerous incidents, prove that the current government is inapt and
un-equipped to lead Albania. Enough is enough. Our younger generation deserves better role
models. Let’s make sure they get them. Kimete

“Albania should immediately come
out of the Islamic Nations’ Conference. Sali Berisha realized its membership,
while Nano and Rama didn’t contest it even once…”, declared he. The Albanian Demo-Christian leader spoke
even about the discrimination toward Demo-Christians. During the 16 years of
the so called pluralism, they not only didn’t have at least one
representative in the Government, but its activists are violated too. Such a
case is very concerning indeed, in the Northern Albania, where
Demo-Christians made much effort to organize. The Demo-Christian Gjergj
Palushi, born on December 11, 1981, whose picture is shown nearby, is being
cured illegally, as his life is in danger. Since the year 2000, he was a
member of this party. As an activist in the meetings in Vau Dejës, and also
Shkodra and Tirana, and other cities of Albania as well, on day 2 of this
month, democratic and socialist sympathizers, clobbered him at about 18.00,
in the village called Juban, and as they thought he was physically
eliminated, they throw him on the side of the road. God spared him. Someone passing by, found
him unconscious and sent him at the Regional Hospital of Shkodra, in the
emergency. According to the register nr.533 of this hospital, it results that
he had cut wounds on his right eyebrow. The paramedic Jaku gave him the first
aid. After he made sure he is safe, he agreed with his relatives to let them
take him, and cured him illegally. This cure is still going on. This act was
due to the fear that anti-Christian groups, who are very well organized and
have never been arrested, could kill him even while at the hospital. This was
witnessed even by the same paramedic, who said for the journal that his
patient feels good now, and he did his human job, and recommended us to write
that he would do the same for anyone. Even the Demo-Christian leader Nikollë
Lesi, in his “bombastic” speech in the Parliament said that “…My head goes
with that of the first Albanian politician, for I had death threats too”. This is a very sad picture for Albania,
that seems to be far away from the day when people will think and live free. Albert Vataj |
