Political murders are being prepared in Kosovo

-Dritan Deda, from Stanof of Mitrovica, at the top of the list to be executed-

Fear and panic is back in Kosovo after the crisis. Former members of KLA, now leading the state and the Democratic Party of Hashim Thaçi, are preparing lists to eliminate their political opposition, members and activists of the Democratic League of the President Rugova. UNMIK made this public and Harry Holkero didn’t deny it. Signs were seen since the end of crisis and the return of freedom in all the Albanian area of Kosovo. Many young people who protested against the Serb regime in ’94-‘98, were forced to leave their birthplace finding shelter in other countries of the world, because fearing revenge, not by Serbs but by their own brothers, as politically in opposition. A bitter destiny came for 4 young people from Stanof of Mitrovica, Avdi Krasniqi, Ilir Shaqiri, Dritan Deda and Arben Shaqiri. All these four were put on target by structures of Serb secret services as participating in students’ protests against the Serb regime. Muharrem Shabani, an Albanian serving the Serb secret service, reported the four guys who were arrested o n May 1995 and set back free after a week, suffering tortures in the prison-cells of the local police-station of Mitrovica. The four guys took revenge as soon as they came to know the name of the spy. They caught Muharrem Shabani in an ambush and beat him hardly. This last one, sought after the four guys to eliminate them for avenge. The four guys left so their village Stanof, to escape revenge, yet it wasn’t over. As activists of the Democratic League, led by Ibrahim Rugova, the four guys had a disagreement with members of KLA, led by Hashim Thaçi. The disagreement led them in dangerous throttle so that the life of the four guys is in a more serious danger and more insecure in Kosovo. On one side, Muharrem Shabani, on the other the former fighters of KLA, that become powerful and have the control. In a situation of increasing pressure and insecurity of life, the four guys left Kosovo by the end of 1998. One of them, Avdi Krasniqi, comes back in 2002, in Stanof, and 3-4 months later four guys, former members of the KLA, shot him dead. The story isn’t over yet, for unknown people start menacing the family of Dritan Deda. In one case they beat hardly his brother, Refik. Though the family reported this to KFOR and UNMIK, menaces and anonymous phone-calls keep on threatening, bringing fear and panic, as to make them leave Stanof and go somewhere, in order to have safer lives. Fear and panic is back these last days, for the menace of political murders. The target of former structures of KLA, now in the Democratic Party of Hashim Thaçi, is their opposition. No comment is needed for the murder of Avdi Krasniqi. Ramazan, Avdi’s father appeals to Dritan Deda, Ilir and Arben Shaqiri to stay away from their country. They will be killed by their own brothers and not by Serbs. The name of Dritan Deda is at the top of the lists made of members of the former KLA, now activists of KDL. This is a very bitter but true reality: Albanians on target by Albanians. Dritan Deda from Mitrovica cannot come back anymore in the land of Kosovo, for the gun of the killer and the political opposition is ready to shot on him. This is the freedom Kosovo is experiencing!

On the highways to survive

There are many Albanians who had to emigrate, many of whom just to save their lives, still in danger here in Albania. The destiny of the emigrants had often a tragic end, while even 32 persons had died at the same time. The last tragedy of January 9, when 21 were drowned and other eight have not been found, speaks of a very hard clime in the post-communist Albania. Anarchy prevail the Albanian life. Only the last seven years over six thousand people were shot dead. Those who aspire for a democratic Albania, without violence, political discrimination, medieval revenge, violation of human freedom and rights, are persecuted, and violated and either killed or in better cases, forced to leave Albania, toward western countries to live the life that God gave them and normally God alone has to take it back. One of the Albanians forced to leave his country, as the clique of the government planned to kill him, was Shefki Rasim Mlloj. He joined the right-winged forces since the beginning of the democratic processes and many times death was nearer to him than life, for he came from an anticommunist family. On September 14, 1998, the day of the funeral of the former Deputy, Azem Hajdari, killed two days before, on September 12, 1998, by the central seat of the Democratic Party in Tirana, he was beaten and mistreated by forces of the security of the state who menaced to kill the democrat Shefki Mlloja and his family, yet he didn’t give up, likewise many other democrats. On October 15, 2003, at round 20 o’clock, unknown people, with political support, placed explosive to his house in Trush of Shkodra. There were great damages but fortunately there were no victims. The target was the extermination of the whole family, and it happened three days after a disagreement in the voting center of October 12, in the local elections, where Shefki Mlloja was commissioned by the Democratic Party in Trush and as such didn’t allow manipulation of votes in favor of the Socialist Party. These elections were the worst while only in Shkodra over 18.000 people were violently count out. Confrontation with dictators were great to cause over 100 democrats arrested, many tortured having then consequences for their lives, as it is the case of Shefki Mlloja.

Homage to the former journalist of “Malësia”, Xhevdet Mataj

One year is almost passed since the murder of the former journalist of “Malësia”, Xhevdet Mataj, a famous murder now. As impossible to give homage to him in the pages of the newspaper where Xhevdet worked for years, giving his contribution in the field of the written media, serving the Albanian fragile democracy that caused him to work with great devotion and honesty, condemning in his articles the communist terror, which also brought into play even his murder. This murder caused the journal “Malësia” to close, for the character of this journal against the Socialist Party on power. We’re giving homage to the former journalist Xhevdet Mataj with an article on the pages of our journal “Shqipëria Etnike”, as our associate, analyzing the family of the former journalist. It was a patriotic and democratic family, persecuted and interned during the communist regime, lastly even killed by the former communists now on power. During the communist regime of E. Hoxha, the family Mataj was interned for two years in Tepelena on 1960. The uncle of the former journalist Mataj was condemned 7 years for political motives. In internment died his aunt, Zade Mataj, as ill with cholera. At the beginning of 1990 the family Mataj, likewise all the persecuted families, joined the democratic movements in Albania, many of whom became members of this political progressive force. The return of the socialists on power meant the restart of haunting against the family Mataj. The top of it was on October 24, 1997, when after a peaceful protest organized in Tirana, where the former journalist Xhevdet Matajm his brother, Naim and his father, Riza Mataj participated, when the protesters were leaving peacefully, their father was killed. This however is not the end of the tragedy. On October 25, 1997, the police went to their house and mistreated all those they found there, as they were looking for Naim, but he was not home for he left because fearing by the pressure on him. He was arrested after one year, in 1998. Despite all what happened to the family Mataj, the Calvary of sufferings is still on them even today. Revenge is still on, that’s why we as journalists of “Shqipëria Etnike”, reminding our respect for the former journalist Mataj, wish this might never happen again.

Rrando Duri the next victim of the communist persecution

Violence and criminal acts of the state toward the opposition supporters and militants are part of the Albanian cruel reality every day faced by those of different attitude from the red forces on power. The long Calvary of the communist persecution, back after 1997, when the old communist forces on power were being recycled, was an endless terror for all those at the head of the anticommunist protests. Many events mark the dark moments of the Albanian reality and many are those who became victims of the communist persecution still in charge in the so called democratic Albania. One of those victims is Rrando Duri, whose house was target for gun shots on March 25, 2003, while he was at home with his wife. He used to live in the quarter of “Kinostudio”, a perypheric area of  Tirana. The police experts who came a few moments later, didn’t do much about the criminal act which is obviously an act of certain segments of the secret police of the state. This is a known practice, just as it is this reality when the state “kills by night and wheeps by day”. Rrando Duri was held for a few hours in the police station nr. 1, to give explanations about the criminal act against his house. Nevertheless there were no effective results from the police efforts on finding out the authors and bringing them to the justice. He obviously was their target, the next victim in the efforts to eliminate the democrats that do not leave communists sleep well.

The socialist government makes the ignorant, no matter the international forces give reports on human rights and freedom overlooked, saying “we’re working on the case”. Besides this criminal act against the house of the family of Rrando Duri, other incidents made this family live restless. In these conditions, when life gets more and more insecure, the state makes the criminal and the hunter of criminals, while Rrando found out as his only way out, as a liberation from fear and anxiety the way of emigration. He had to leave like many others had to, for the revenge of the communists still now on power, was getting every day harder against their political oppositors, especially against militants like Rrando. It couldn’t be different as the life is unasfe in this country.

The Canon of Lekë Dukagjini in Albania is mightier than the State

The phenomenon of blood-feud is one of the heaviest plagues in Albania. The State is unable to protect the life of its people, as well as to carry in safer areas either them or their families, now living shut-in. Over 3000 Albanian families today are living shut-in because the Canon of Lekë Dukagjini is mightier than the State. The only safe way is to leave Albania. An entire district in Shkodra was named “The District of Blood-feud”. Despite the fact it is defended by private guards, many victims resulted. The former Chairman of the Municipality Council of Shkodra, Ndoc Çefa, a policeman and many others who had blood-feud problems were forced to emigrate leaving Albania, as the State didn’t preserve their lives and families. The young Koland Ndreca, 17 years old, was forced to emigrate all over Europe, just because his uncle had committed a murder and revenge would fall on him and his father.

The organization “Albanian League of the Peace Missionaries”, that cares about reconciliation, whose president is Xhoana Nano, the wife of the Prime Minister, is unable to stop or limit this phenomenon.

The State gives up in front of the Canon. States like America, England, France, Italy etc, helped Albanians with this kind of problems, giving them shelter, but other states like Belgium have sent them back. In many cases of repatriation, the Albanians with conflict problems have been killed in accordance with the Albanian canonic customs while revenge takes place even 200 years later.
