nr. 110 / 20 tetor 2007
The democrat from Shkodra, unsafe even
between the high mountains of the north His name is Markoz Tinaj,
born in Shkodër on February 9, 1977, where he grew
up continuing his family tradition on taking part in the democratic processes
in Albania, giving a great contribution in his activity during these
processes. His history is like that of many other true democrats, thirsting
for freedom and democracy, yet being unique in its kind.
On September 14, 1998, after the funeral of Azem
Hajdari, the first leader of the Democratic Party,
he was beaten and arrested by the Albanian police that kept him totally
isolated for three days. In Shkodër, while living amongst some
extremist socialists who menaced to eliminate him, his friends and family
declared that he left Albania, in order to save his life. However, as he was
seriously threatened, he had found shelter by Dodë Tinaj, his uncle, in Vermosh of
Kelmend. In Vermosh, the
village of his family, being supported being supported by his cousin, Ejëll Tinaj, the chairman of
the Demo-Christian Party for the village, since July 1997, Markoz restarted his activity supporting the DCP and its
ideals. In November 22, 1998, during the referendum for the Constitution,
boycotted by all the right-wing parties, while in Vermosh
voted the inhabitants of eight villages of Kelmend,
Markoz Tinaj was arrested
by the police along with his cousin, Ejëll Tinaj, chairman of the party for Vermosh.
The chairman of the Demo-Christian Party for Kelmend,
Leonard Vucaj was arrested too. After their arrest,
these three persons were kept isolated, ill-treated and beaten for four days
in Tamarë, the center of Kelmend.
After this incident, Markoz Tinaj
avoided every political activity, being threatened and fearing for his life,
standing alone in the house of his uncle doing various agricultural works in
the land of his family. After the elections of July 3, 2005, Markoz Tinaj was elected by his
party members in Vermosh, as their chairman, to
lead it. During this period he was leading, Markoz
organized many meetings in the house of his uncle. During one of these
meetings, on November 1, 2006, when members of the Demo-Christian Party of Vermosh were gathered in the house of the uncle of Markoz Tinaj, the police of Kelmend made an inspection for weapons in the house.
During the inspection, Markoz Tinaj
was ill-treated and wounded by the police and his relatives send him urgently
in the Regional Hospital of Shkodra, where he had
the necessary medical care for about a week. After this incident, feeling
totally unsafe, not only in Shkodër, where he was
born and grown, but even up deep in the mountains of Vermosh,
where his family comes from, Markoz Tinaj had to leave Albania trying to save his life. This is the drama of this young man who couldn’t enjoy his life in is
birth-land, not even in the land of his antecessors. He had no guilt, no sin,
but the desire to contribute for his country by being active and devoted to
the Demo-Christian ideals, who built cities and civilizations all around the
world, except Albania, apparently. Ndue Pepushaj Goliath against
David Edi Rama against Fatos Nano? Or Fatos Nano against Edi
Rama! It is a giants crash within the Socialist
Party. Strong because of the direct vote of the socialist people, weak
outside the Parliament. Strong because of the support of the socialist
deputies and the 8 years long past in power as winner, weak because of the
actual position in the Socialist Party. Everyone thinks Nano is next to create a new
political force. That’s the logic indeed, as the former Prime Minister is
knocking the door from behind it. But, even Edi Rama can create a party,
always if it will result in minority within the subject he leads. Nano asks
the support of the rose membership. Rama already owns all the structures of
the SP. “Together we win” is the slogan used by Nano, sounding somewhat
meaningless while he presents himself to the base of the socialists
criticizing and as an alternative to Rama. “Dialogue with Albania” is the slogan
of Rama, but in many meetings he had a monologue, without giving any member
or those who have different opinion, the right to say something. The “Army of Peace” promoted by Nano, until now results with many
generals and few soldiers. In battle terminology, it’s much probable to lose
the battle. The “Socialist Army” has many, many soldiers. The generals, if
they’re not few, until now have given no contribution to the victory of the
commander Rama.
Actually, the people who follow Nano in the meetings,
cannot realize any interest, either economical or any other kind. It might be
considered as nostalgia for the legendary “commander” or “payment of debts”
of the 8 years of government of the SP, by the former jurisdiction or
administration. Rama, besides the undeniable power in the SP, has also the
Municipality of Tirana to which are related many interests, within and
outside the biggest political subject of the opposition. Rama fears Nano: in discussion is the position of the chairman of the
socialists, but also another mandate as Mayor of Tirana. Nano doesn’t fear
Rama: he has nothing to lose, like proletarians, except the irons in
revolutions! Everywhere, Nano is trying to give the idea that the getaway from the
leadership of the SP isn’t the purpose in itself of the movement he leads.
The former Prime Minister states that he is trying to heal the union of the
biggest party in opposition. Edi Rama, after trying for a long time to ignore
his predecessor through silence, in almost every meeting now is either
directly or indirectly cursing Nano. None doubts that this confrontation of
ideas or political concepts is becoming a personal little battle Nano-Rama.
No little influence has the attitude in totally opposed positions during the
process of election for the new President of the country. Their meetings,
formal or informal, within or outside the rose seat, made them know better
their actual positions. During those few moments they were face to face with
one another, Nano could investigate his successor in the empty chair, now
much more powerful by “a member, a vote” and a statue that gives very
limitless power in the SP. In the position of a presidential candidate who
couldn’t have yet the support of the subject he created and led for 15 years,
Rama saw in Nano signs of a political frailty. Everything has changed now. Rama cut Nano’s presidential “dream”,
placing indirectly Neritan Ceka,
who admitted that he had the blessing of the leader of the socialists for his
presidential candidature. Even Nano, with the 6 votes of his supporters for Topi as President, cut the waving 2 years long dream of
Rama for premature elections. The battle moved in the Socialist Party. The two “armies” are in front
of one another. With a first sight, the socialist “official” army of Rama is
more superior. The army of “peace” of Nano is inferior. Both far from the
power, for at least two more years. So, they have enough time and energy to
“fight with each other” in this common front. Rama is charismatic, but more
outside the membership of the SP and more with the sympathizers. This because
of the position of Mayor of Tirana. Nano was charismatic within the party he
created and bears the credits of 8 years of government of the country with
almost 56 ministers nominated, at least 36 of whom came out against him in
this movement! After his approach to Berisha, Nano
has not only some new credits added but also an invisible support in his
contest to lead the SP. One of the most famous confrontations within the pages of the holy
books is that between David and Goliath. For those who don’t know the
biblical story, David was a tiny shepherd, but with a strong faith in God. He
had first won the disproportionate confrontation with a lion who menaced his
flock. Goliath was a philistine giant soldier, almost We cannot clearly determine who is represented by David, either Nano
or Rama: just as we cannot say who will be, at the end of this confrontation,
Goliath, the evil pagan giant. One thing is for sure: he who will be more convincing
to the socialist base, that should be the true owner of the SP, will triumph.
Nevertheless, biblical stories have more moral, where the good triumphs over
the evil, in comparison to every other political subject in Albania, where
there are no rules, even less moral ones! Blerti Delija |
